Parent Teacher Conference Day is Wednesday, November 14th. There will be no classes for students in order to accommodate for conferences. Make sure to check your child's backpack for your appointment time. If you have any questions regarding your appointment, please contact the school or email your teacher.
The 1st trimester is over and teachers are working hard to grade student work to report to parents/guardians the progress of their child. Report cards will not be sent home with students. Parents will be receiving the report card at the parent teacher conference.
Attention 4th - 8th graders! Do you want to help end hunger in Santa Clara County? Create a winning poster to help us promote our annual food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank. Our goal this year is to collect 35,000 pounds of food which equals 27,005 meals. Deadline to submit your poster is Thursday, November 15. Click the headline of this story for details.

Parent/Teacher Conferences During the week of November 12th, your child's teacher will be hosting Parent/Teacher conferences. Look for the teacher's note telling you the date and time of your conference. Parent-teacher conferences provide an excellent opportunity to find out how your child is adjusting to the new school year and to get to know his/her teachers.
Through the 2018-19 school year we will be showing a series of four films that will be of genuine interest to any family.
Second and Third grade students had the opportunity to meet and listen to a local renowned author/illustrator LeUyen Pham on October 23rd, 2018. She encourages to bring a sketchbook to record memories instead of using a camera. In addition, she reminds us that drawing is a language. Students heard Ms. Pham read her recently published book, "Stop That Yawn." To close the presentation, she modeled a live sketch session and personally autographed books for children.

On Monday, October 1, 2018, John J. Montgomery Elementary school held a ribbon cutting ceremony along with its new partners KPMG and pro golfer Maverick McNealy to unveil the new look in the library, which includes new painting, 1000 books, and $13,000 in new furniture. The exciting news was featured in ABC Channel 7 news. Weekly music classes for all students in Kindergarten through 4th grade will has begun!!! Students learn music appreciation, singing, recorders, bells, and the list goes on! Students in grades 5th and 6th have the option to sign up for band. Please contact the office for more information.

O.B. Whaley has planted its flag as a STEAM school
Parent Involvement/English Language Learners (ELAC) Thursday, September 20th at 6:00 P.M. Each school with 21 or more English Language Learners are required to establish an ongoing English Language Learner Advisory Committee. All parents/guardians of English Language Learners are encouraged to participate. ELAC advises the principal and School Site Council on mandated topics related to English Language Learners. Topics include: needs assessment, instructional strategies, school attendance, district master plan for English Learners, etc. Our first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 20th at 6:00 P.M. in the library. We look forward to seeing you there. We will be voting for membership.
